![]() ![]() These rays have a range of 120 feet, enough to keep trespassers at a distance for two to five combat rounds. It has an innate ability to hover, so it can never be knocked prone.Īt melee range, it has a bite attack, but the beholder’s trump card is its Eye Rays, which emanate from the many smaller eyes at the end of stalks extending from its body. As you’d expect from a floating blob with a giant central eye, its Perception skill is through the roof it also has darkvision out to 120 feet. Though not strong, it has powerful mental abilities along with a high Dexterity and very high Constitution, protecting it against all of the “big three” types of saving throws. It has little purpose in life beyond guarding its chosen turf. The beholder is an aberration-a magically summoned creature of extraplanar origin-with a hateful, avaricious and territorial temperament. Why do I mention this? Because the beholder is such an iconic D&D monster that our host-who knew hardly anything about the game before we began playing-told me near the beginning of our campaign, “All I want is to run into an ‘eye of the beholder,’ and I’ll be happy.” I know everything lies on Turn Undead succeeding. Our current Dungeons and Dragons group got together after one of my wife’s coworkers cattily referred to a client as “someone who looks like he’d play Dungeons and Dragons in his mom’s basement,” and another of them retorted, “I would totally play Dungeons and Dragons.” He ended up being the host of our weekly sessions. **Is it true we will roll once if we find the square it is in? Is it true it will not be able to use magic rays at all?.So its a normal single attack roll**ġ hour has 600 turns, so i guess it is ensured that we kill it easily if everything else goes as planned. We will have disadvantage on attack roll because we dont see it, but we also have advantage because it cannot see us. We now have around 1 hour to destroy it with range attacks.Įach one of us will move a bit, so we can blindly attack a corridor square, then move back to cover. It cannot use magic rays against us because of the fog*, and we are out of his bite range. Zombie beholder is now trapped between the thin walls, and the magic circle, with a fog cloud in between. Both me and Ranger disengage to the open space. The Ranger stays in this clouded area and dodges in case zombie beholder tries to exit the corridor and approach me.Ĭloud and dodging Ranger give me enough time to finish Magic Circle. While Turn Undead is active, I approach it to 15ft and start the 1 minute casting time of my scroll of Magic Circle.īefore Turn Undead stops, Druid casts Fog cloud in the area between me and the Zombie Beholder. Druid's Find Familiar optional spell will be helpful on that.Īfter hiding, I as the party's cleric cast Turn Undead in order to make it run away from me and actually enter a small corridor until it can no longer move further because of its size. We draw its attention and make it enter some small corridors. We lost many resources to escape to the upper floor, but since there are no hints we will now be able to just leave the house, our only option might be to confront the beholder. We are trapped in haunted house and we discovered a zombie beholder (not the original one, the Zombie) in the basement. We are 2 level 2 and one level 3 players.
